Focusing on Nutrition and Getting Serious

This summer was pretty hard for me regarding several different fronts of my life which created a perfect storm. It was emotionally draining and I wasn't coping well with some of the stress. If you envision a water glass being refilled to the point of overflowing, but the person filling the glass just keeps pouring more water...that's what it was like for a bit. Long story short, my training suffered.

With the change of the seasons, I became inspired with possibility! I refocused on my training and evaluated where I wanted to take myself the remained of 2019. I decided I would like to pull off two races this fall at the half marathon distance. This coincided perfectly with the Crawlin' Crab Half Marathon which is on October 4-6 in Hampton, VA. This looks like a great weekend which includes a Craft Brew Fest!

That said, the miles were hard at first and that's okay. I wanted to do more that helped with my running. I started swimming, hitting the bike and I focused on nutrition. I've been eating hard-boiled eggs (purchased an egg steamer on Amazon), grilled chicken, apples, nuts, etc. See this article for more info on hard-boiled eggs. Avoiding processed food makes me feel better inside, and it helps me keep a higher level of consistent energy. I can graze in the kitchen and one thing I've tried is having filling options available. I don't feel like reaching for candy or other poor choices if I'm consistently making an effort at seeking out cleaner options. 

Will it make a difference in my time? I'm kinda taking this one step at a time. I'm enjoying it and gonna challenge myself and see what happens. I'm happy to make a change that puts me on a path that includes running and new activities, like swimming.
